The STAS qubic might be small, but should not be underestimated! Being small is exactly what is so useful about this suspension system. It is small, but does a hell of a job! For small pieces of wall you no longer need to buy meters of picture rails and cut them to size. The STAS qubic has a carrying capacity of 15 kg, can be mounted with one screw and is suitable for one suspension point. The final weight that you can hang on the STAS qubic depends on your hook-cord combination. The STAS qubic is suitable for wall or ceiling mounting with hard surfaces such as stone or concrete.

The STAS qubic's big brother is the STAS qubic pro. As the name suggests, this suspension system provides a bit more strength because it has an extra plate that can be mounted on the surface with 2 extra screws. The STAS qubic pro is therefore very suitable for soft surfaces such as plaster and lime sand and can not be pulled out of the wall or ceiling due to the extra reinforcement.

With both the STAS qubic and the STAS qubic pro, the STAS steel cable with glider or the STAS perlon cord with glider can be used (vertically and horizontally). Okay, so you've made the decision to get yourself a picture rail to hang your wall decoration. Good choice! Of course, there are many different ways to install your picture hanging system. They all depend on your needs and your personal style. However, when you are new to picture hanging systems.. you might need some tips and inspiration. Over the years, we've seen many different ways to install your personal picture hanging system. We have put together all these years of inspiration in this blog post and came up with....

8 tips to get the most out of your picture hanging system!

How to get the most out of your picture hanging system

Tip 1. Install the picture rail over the entire length of the wall

Using the entire length of the wall creates an aesthetically pleasing look. Moreover, it enables you to use the entire wall to hang decoration, which increases the flexibility to move things around. Bonus tip: The rail can be easily cut to size with a hacksaw! Extra Bonus tip: STAS also has corner caps which you can use on the corners in your room. They enable you to use an entire wall (with corners!) to hang decoration.

Tip 2. Install the picture rail right underneath the crown molding (if you have any)

Installing the picture rail right underneath the crown molding makes it a proper whole. There is no space left unused, and wall and picture rail smoothly unite. If you don't have a crown molding we would advise you to install the picture rail as close to the ceiling as possible. Use the handy drilling template and installation instructions to install your picture hanging system at the correct height below your ceiling.

Tip 3. Consider painting the picture rail

Painting the picture rail in the color of your wall is a smart way to make your picture hanging system less prominent. Don't forget to gently sand down the rail with very fine sandpaper and make sure the rail is clean, dust free and greaseproof. Next, paint the rail with acrylic paint. Bonus tip: Painting your picture rail in a contrasting color makes your wall pop!

Tip 4. Use the right cords and hooks that fit your needs

We offer different cords and hooks to make sure that there is always something that fits your needs. Do you want your cords to be nearly invisible? Then you might opt for a perlon cord. Need to hang heavier works of art? Go for a steel cable. All STAS hooks and cords can be found here.

Tip 5. Use 2 cords to hang a heavy or large frame

If you have a heavy or large frame, you might consider using 2 cords instead of 1. Using 2 cords increases the carrying capacity and ensures that your frame hangs more steady. Always keep the maximum carrying capacity in mind though.

Tip 6. Make sure that the hook you're using is invisible

Your wall decoration looks at its best without any visible hooks. Ultimitely, you want your decoration to be the center of attention! When this is not possible due to the position of the hook on the back of the frame, you might consider using picture hanging hardware to adjust this. Tip 7. Hang multiple frames on one cord to create a dynamic look

You can hang one frame on a cord, but in order to create a more dynamic look we suggest you hang multiple frames on one cord. Nevertheless, always keep in mind that you never exceed the carrying capacity of the hook-cord combinations.

Tip 8. Consider making a wall gallery

The wall gallery trend is a trend that stands the test of time... and for good reason! With all the different options that are available nowadays, it would be a shame to only hang frames. A wall gallery template

A wall gallery template is an example of how you could put together your gallery wall. It shows how you can position different frames in an appropriate arrangement in your interior. Nowadays, there seems to be more and more attention for the acoustics in a room. And that's a good thing too because more and more studies show that bad acoustics can be a bad thing for our health! Our lives no longer consist of daily routines. With today's technology we have made leaps in our development, but at the same time, we are also expected to be flexible and quickly adaptable. To do this, rest and concentration are very important but this might be the biggest problem yet! Fun fact: after a disruption of a complicated task, a person needs 8 minutes to reach that same level of concentration as before the disruption! Telephones go off continuously, workplaces become more and more massive .. all in all, enough noise and distractions that can disturb the concentration if you ask me. And bad for your health it is indeed. An annoying persistent noise can lead to an increase in adrenaline and cortisol production. Now, this may not tell you much, but all of this can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression and cardiovascular disease. Not so great! The solution? Acoustic wall panels!

Hanging acoustic wall panels

Acoustic wall panels can greatly improve the acoustics in a room as they are sound absorbers. When we talk about acoustics then this certainly does not only apply to acoustics in, for example, a studio. Consider, for example, the acoustics in the office, at school, in your home (acoustic panels can often be printed and can therefore also be very stylish!), In a church or in a restaurant. The worse the acoustics in a room, the more difficult it is for a person to place the sound. This all happens subconsciously, but at the same time does ensure a stressful or tiring situation. Even if you do not think you have any hindrance from sound, this is often the case subconsciously. Good acoustics can, therefore, provide a lot for you. Peace, comfort, better speech intelligibility, better concentration, less stress and less fatigue.

Normally, acoustic wall panels are attached to the wall, but did you know that these can also be hung on a STAS picture hanging system? If there is no hole in the panel then you can easily drill a hole so that the hook can be properly attached. The usefulness of an acoustic wall panel hung on a hanging system is that it is ideal for sustainable building management or when you simply do not want to drill holes in your wall! Pretty alternatives for your wall gallery

In an earlier blog post we showed you how easy it is to create a gallery wall. When you think of a gallery wall you may think of a wall filled with frames. But how cool would it be to add some other items?! Nowadays, a gallery wall does not have to consist of purely photographs and paintings. There are so many creative things to find that make it a fitting yet surprising whole. In addition, this gives even more possibilities to let your interior reflect your personality!

Mirrors

Mirrors can be easily hung with the STAS self adhesive hangers. After degreasing the surfaces, the hanger can be put onto the back of the mirror (because: self adhesive!). Then you can hang the mirror with a STAS zipper or STAS smartspring on your STAS picture hanging system.

Hats

Hats can be hung in different ways. You could try to hang them on a STAS zipper or a STAS smartspring. Another possibility is using a STAS quilt hanger. When you choose for this hanger, you can clip the quilt hanger around the edge of the hat.

Taxidermy

You obviously have taxidermy in many different types and sizes. A small piece can be easily hung with a STAS self adhesive hanger. You could also screw one or multiple STAS d-hangers at the back of the taxidermy piece(s). This way you also increase the carrying capacity.

Textile

Textile can only be hung in one way and that is of course with our .... STAS quilt hanger! If you want to hang a nice macramé on a string then the STAS zipper or the STAS smartspring work just as well.

Lightboxes

Light boxes often have an opening at the back so that you can easily hang them. A light box is therefore extremely suitable to hang with a STAS zipper!

Plants

How you hang up your plants depends on what kind of pot you use. If you use a string that is attached to the pot then you only need a STAS zipper. If you have a very flat pot then you could considerate a STAS self adhesive hangers in combination with a STAS zipper, or for example a STAS d-hanger in combination with a STAS zipper.

Vinyl records

To protect your vinyl records, we would advise you to put them in a frame. When you go for this option, you only need a STAS zipper

Plates

You can hang plates in a jiffy with the STAS plate hangers! These hangers are available in various sizes (5.9"-7.9"/7,9"-11.8"/9.8"-13.8"/14.2"-17.7"). After choosing the right plate hanger, you can add a STAS zipper and a cord so that you can hang your plate on a STAS picture hanging system.

The STAS papergrip is an aluminum rail with a strip on the inside and is available in the colors aluminum, black structured lacquer, white structured lacquer and white smooth, and in the lengths 50cm / 19.7”, 100cm / 37.4”, 150 cm / 59” or 200cm / 78.7”.

STEP 1: Screw or glue the STAS papergrip on the desired location

Do you want to fit the papergrip exactly to a certain length? Then simply cut the papergrip to size (and straight  ) with a hacksaw. There are 2 ways to assemble the papergrip. Use the included rail clip screws (3 per meter); mount the plugs, tighten the screw and click the papergrip onto the clipscrews. The papergrip can also be placed with magnetic tape or double-sided tape, provided the substrate is suitable for this purpose and no heavy objects are placed in or on the papergrip. It is of course possible to mount several suspension systems side by side with the aid of a rail connector to extend the length of the hanging area. Finish the papergrip by placing the matching end caps on both ends.

STEP 2: Clip your papers into the bottom of the STAS papergrip

Thanks to a strip in the rail, papers can easily be clamped and removed again. Both thick and thin paper can be removed in one movement to replace with something new. For example, hang Christmas or birthday cards in a prominent place in the living room, recipes in the kitchen, calendar notes on the door, children's drawings in the playroom or personal photos in the hallway. There are plenty of options!

STEP 3: Put something on top of the STAS papergrip

The special ledge of the papergrip also makes it possible to place some stiffer paper types such as cardboard or thin magazines up to 3.5mm /0.14” thick on top of the rail for even more hanging options!

STEP 4: Add a STAS papergrip hook and hang small items from it

Click one or more of the specially designed plastic STAS papergrip hooks onto the rail, to hang small items such as keys on the STAS papergrip. The papergrip hooks are available in the colors alu, black and white, matching the colors of the rail. But of course you can also use the colors of the papergrip and hooks to achieve a contrasting look!

STEP 5: Hang a STAS steel cable with a loop on the papergrip hook and use magnets to hang photos onto the cable

You get an extra playful effect when you use the STAS steel cable with loop on a STAS papergrip hook; hang your best pictures using our coloured pawn shaped magnets to think back to those precious moments!

STAS d-ring hanger

The STAS d-ring hanger can be screwed to the back of a frame to hang it on for example a STAS smartspring or STAS zipper.

STAS self-adhesive dibond hanger

The STAS dibond hangers is a metal, self-adhesive plate with a hook. The STAS dibond hanger can be hung with suitable hooks and cords or it can be attached to the wall with a plug and screw. The product includes wall hook, mounting plug and screw. For secure, heavy duty picture hanging.

Flat surfaces such as art and photographs on acrylic, dibond, plexiglass or aluminum are perfectly (and invisibly) to mount with the STAS dibond hangers. You can combine the STAS self-adhesive dibond hanger with a STAS picture hanging system, which allows you to hang multiple objects as a gallery. A combination of frames (in different sizes, shapes and colors) makes it a beautiful and cheerful whole!

Important when applying the STAS dibond hangers is that the surface is dust and grease free. After cleaning the surface, place the dibond hanger in the right place and press it firmly for 10 seconds. Then allow the dibond hanger to adhere for 30 minutes before hanging up an item.

The STAS dibond hanger is available in two sizes: small (to carry up to 6.6 lbs - 3 kg) and large (to carry up to 13.2 lbs - 6 kg). You have an item that is heavier than 13.2 lbs - 6 kg? No problem! It is important to take into account the maximum carrying capacity of the hangers. You can mount multiple STAS dibond hangers to increase the carrying capacity. For instance, a 22 lbs - 10 kg piece of art can be easily hung this way with 2 large STAS dibond hangers mounted right next to each other.

STAS plate hanger

Decorating with plates is an inexpensive way to create a huge statement in a room. You can experiment with combining flea-market finds with heirloom pieces and new plates. STAS plate hanger make it easy to hang your plates fast and secure and are available for plates with various diameters. Especially combined with a STAS picture rail system, it will prevent you from having to drill all of those holes in your wall!

STAS quilt hanger

Not all wall decor is suitable for framing. Tapestries, quilts, flags, banners and other textile decorations can therefore be hung with STAS a quilt hanger set: just simply clip the clips on the top edge of the textile. The clips can then be hung from a STAS cord. With a broad quilt, you can use 2 sets of cord with quilt hanger, so you can level the quilt and make it hang straight. It’s that easy.

STAS sawtooth hangers are a good hanging system for frames and canvasses. Because of the zig-zag pattern, the object doesn't slip from the hook sideways.

TIP 3: : Check which frames you already have and if you need any new items. You can hang canvasses, drawings or posters using poster strips. Moreover, there are many great online wall art providers today, such as Blue Horizon Prints for instance . Browse around for original decoration!

TIP 4: Align the colors of the frames with its content and other items for your gallery wall. Don't hesitate to add in a joke to keep it light!

TIP 5: Rent a work of art at the art library. You can temporarily borrow a work of art and exchange it for another piece after a certain period. The best way to hang real art on your wall without having to spend a fortune on it. And the great thing is that after a while you can choose something else!

TIP 7: How far do you want to go? Do you have a long wall that can be fully used to place wall decorations? Hang the rail of your choice on the entire length of the wall. This is not only practical in use, but also looks much nicer than when you cover only a part of the wall.

TIP 8: Then the composition. Where does each item go? Of course you could draw a sketch first, but with STAS you can hang and rearrange items extremely easy, in just seconds! While working on it, you can easily determine what the best composition is.

2 designs because... tastes differ

If there is something that we have learned over the years is that tastes differ. Which is a good thing because unity.., well, is rather boring. We therefore choose to provide our wooden picture rails in 2 different designs with distinctive profiles so that there is something for everyone. The STAS windsor is our classic victorian design with elegant and warm features and the STAS riva is our modern design with a robust look and feel.

                                       

The carrying capacity of the STAS windsor and the STAS riva is the same. Both rails can carry up to 20 kg per meter with the matching hooks. The measurements of our wooden picture rails are as follows:

Because of their unique designs, both STAS windsor and STAS riva require different hooks. The STAS moulding hook is available for the STAS windsor in 3 different colors: white, silver and gold. The STAS hook riva is ofcourse suited for the STAS riva and is available in the color silver.

The cords that are suited for the STAS windsor and riva are our STAS cables with loop. To be exact we are here talking about the STAS perlon cord with loop and the STAS steel cable with loop. Keep in mind the weight you want to hang when you want to order hooks and cords. As you see in the picture below, the hooks and cords have different load capacities. The STAS zipper and the STAS smartspring ensure that you can easily hang your wall decoration at the right height. Redecorate as often as you like! How to assemble?

Our STAS wooden picture rails are suitable to screw, nail and even glue(!) for wall mounting and ceiling fitting mounting. The STAS windsor is suitable for wall mounting and it can also be mounted from at least 1 centimeter underneath the ceiling. Because of its design the STAS riva is suitable for wall mounting as well as ceiling fitting mounting. Be careful though when you decide to glue your wooden rails. The bearing capacity of a glued rails is highly dependent on its surface so care must be taken here. The carrying capacity of a STAS picture rails is a very important factor to keep in mind when making an informed choice in our range. Because what do you want to hang up? Large mirrors and heavy frames quickly provide quite a lot of weight. The last thing you want is that a precious piece of decoration falls to the floor because it was too heavy for the picture rails. To create some more clarity about this, we will make a comparison of the picture rails in this blog based on the carrying capacity. The STAS wooden rails

In addition to aluminum rails, STAS also offers wooden rails. Two distinctive models, suitable for any interior! The STAS windsor is elegant and traditional, the STAS riva has a more robust look and feel. Both models are easy to use and each has its own profile for which suitable hooks are available. The STAS wooden rails are made of Ayous wood and FSC certificated. Ayous wood differs from other wood because it does not deform or splinter, and it is perfect to repaint because of the smooth texture of the wood. The STAS wooden rails can be mounted screwed, nailed and glued*

*The weight capacity of a glued rails is highly dependent on the surface, so care must be taken here. More information on how to best glue our wooden rails can be found on our website.

The STAS plasterrail

The STAS plasterrail is not only very functional, but also invisible! The STAS plasterrail is the only hanging system that can be fully integrated into a new wall to be built or stuccoed. This makes the STAS plasterrail also ideal for new construction projects. The STAS plasterrail is made of galvanized steel and has a size of 250 cm. The rail must be punched into the untreated rough wall using nails. When this has happened, the rail can be integrated with the wall. In order to prevent the gutter from getting trapped in the rail with limescale, a build-up wire must first be placed in the gutter. Immediately after plastering you can carefully remove the string so that the stucco dries nicely.

The STAS u-rail

The STAS u-rail has been specially developed for system ceilings. The rail can be easily and almost invisibly mounted on the side rail of a system ceiling. A system ceiling becomes a flexible hanging system with only a small adjustment! The STAS u-rail is ideal for use in offices, schools and healthcare facilities. The STAS u-rail is available in the colours white and black and in lengths of 150, 200, 250 or 300 cm.

The STAS minirail

The STAS minirail is characterized by an exceptionally narrow shape and an innovative mounting method. The rail is only 16 mm high, but can still carry 25 kg per meter. Thanks to a handy screw, the STAS clip screw, you can easily mount the STAS minirail to the wall. The STAS minirail is perfect when you are looking for an elegant and discrete picture rail! The STAS minirail is available in the colours white and aluminium and in lengths of 150 and 250 cm.

The STAS cliprail max

The STAS cliprail max is a hanging system for the perfectionist. The nice thing about this picture rail is that it features a top rim that connects with your ceiling. Without any gaps! With this system, your ceiling, wall and picture hanging system smoothly unite. With a little help of the STAS clip screw you can easily mount the STAS cliprail max on the wall. The STAS j-rail

The STAS j-rail is based on the shape of indeed.. the letter J! Thanks to this shape, the rail can be combined in many ways with hooks, cords and even rods. The use of a rod instead of a cord or steel cable makes moving and changing art on high walls very easy. A ladder is not necessary because the rod can be lifted from below out of the picture rail. This makes the STAS j-rail, with its somewhat industrial appearance, a nice picture hanging system for galleries and business premises. The STAS cliprail pro is, thanks to a thick-walled profile, extremely suitable for hanging heavier objects. Despite this great carrying capacity, the STAS cliprail pro is an elegant and discrete picture rail, suitable for public spaces but also just as well for homes. With the railclip the STAS cliprail pro is easily to be mounted. The STAS cliprail pro is available in the colours white and aluminium and in lengths of 150 and 200 cm.

The STAS multirail

The STAS multirail is a worldwide patented picture hanging system with an integrated lighting rail. A hanging system and painting lighting in one. 12V voltage wires are integrated into the rail. Different STAS fixtures can then easily be clicked into the rail at any desired location in order to highlight wall decoration with LED or halogen. The combination with LED lamps makes the STAS multirail extremely energy-efficient. The STAS multirail is available in the colours silver and white, and in a length of 200 cm.

The STAS j-rail max is a heavyweight champion! The thick-walled profile of the STAS j-rail max can carry up to 100 kg per meter. The STAS j-rail max is combined with rods instead of cords.This makes moving and changing art on high walls very easy. A staircase is not necessary because the rod can be lifted from below out of the picture rail. The STAS j-rail max system is also available with theft-delayed security and is frequently used in galleries and museums. The STAS j-rail max is available in the colours silver and white, and in lengths of 150 and 200 cm.

Carrying capacity of hooks and cords

We have now explained the carrying capacity of our picture rails. Unfortunately, with only rails you are not quite there yet. To hang wall decorations you will also need hooks and cords. STAS offers many hooks and cords, with different bearing capacities.

STAS perlon cord with cobra

The STAS perlon cord with cobra is suitable for most rail systems with the exception of the j-rail, j-rail max, plasterrail and wooden rails. The perlon cord is nearly invisible and in combination with the STAS smartspring it can carry up to 4 kg and with the STAS zipper up to 15 kg per cord.

The STAS steelcable with cobra is suitable for most rail systems with the exception of the j-rail, j-rail max, plasterrail and wooden rails. The steel cable is suitable for hanging heavier wall decorations with the STAS zipper up to 20 kg per cable. The STAS black steel cable with cobra and the STAS white steel cable with cobra can carry up to 10 kg per cable.

In brief..

The total weight you want to hang up may never be more than the rails per linear meter can carry. Of course you can use multiple hooks and cords to safely hang your wall decoration. For example: You have a total weight of 18 kg that you want to hang on the STAS wooden picture rails. For this weight, one STAS moulding hook windsor with a perlon cord with loop and a STAS zipper, would not be enough. A good solution is to use 2 STAS moulding hook windsor with a perlon cord with loop as well as 2 STAS zippers.

Sometimes you just have a beautiful picture or painting that you want to give extra attention in your interior. You can do that by hanging it in a beautiful or striking frame, or by placing the photo or the painting in a very prominent place in your interior. Another possibility is the use of light. With the STAS multirail you can put your photo or painting literally in the spotlights! The STAS multirail is a painting rail with integrated 12v voltage wires (low voltage). Thanks to these integrated voltage wires, a lighting fixture can be clicked on every spot in the rail to illuminate your wall decoration in a stylish way. Choosing a STAS multirail system is done in 4 steps but starts with the basis: the STAS multirail. The STAS multirail is a classic model with a patented 12V lighting rail. The STAS multirail is available in the colours white or silver and in a length of 200 centimeters.

STEP 1: Choose a fixture

STAS fixtures can be easily clicked into your STAS multirail. Some tips when choosing a fixture for your STAS multirail system:

1. The bigger the distance between light source and wall, the bigger the artwork that can be illuminated. In other words: choose a large fixture for lighting a large work of art.

2. Is your wall 270 cm high or higher? We would recommend installing a fixture of 70 cm

STAS offers 3 different fixtures:

• • The STAS multirail armature classic is the classic model and is available in the colours white and chrome and in lengths of 50 and 70 cm.
• • The STAS multirail armature signo chrome is a smaller and curved fixture. The STAS multirail armature signo chrome comes in the colour chrome and in a length of 70 cm.
• • The STAS multirail armature sirius chrome is a smaller fixture. The STAS multirail armature sirius chrome comes in the colour chrome and is 50 cm long.

STEP 2: Choose a spotlight

STAS offers 3 different led lights. Led lighting is energy efficient, has a long lifespan and doesn’t emit infrared radiation.

• • The STAS led spot 3,5W/27° emits a narrow beam of light, suitable for small paintings.
• • The STAS led spot 3,5W/95° emits a wide beam of light, suitable for large artworks.
• • The STAS powerled 4W has a closed housing which avoids light spill at the back.

STEP 3: Choose an adapter

The choice of an adapter depends on 3 things:

1. The type of spotlight you’d like to use (led or halogen). STAS only offers led spotlights.

2. The number of spotlights you’d like to install

3. The number of meters of rail you’d like to install

STAS offers 2 different adapters:

• • Adapter 18W
• • Adapter 60W

Caution! In case you would like to use more than the above mentioned number of meters or spots, you will have to use multiple adapters. Adapters must never be connected, neither directly nor indirectly. In short: never connect two rail segments that are each connected to a different adapter! Exclusively connect rail segments that share one adapter.

STEP 4: Choose hooks and cords

The final step (and the most fun step ) is hanging your wall decoration. To hang your wall decoration you need hooks and cords! Consider two factors when choosing your hooks and cords:

1. the weight of the object you wish to hang

2. the look that appeals most to you

Do you also get freaked out at the thought of having to hang up a mirror? Trust me you are not alone! Here, at STAS, we can completely find you in this stress factor. After all, you wouldn't dare thinking that your new mirror falls onto the ground in 10000 pieces in the middle of the night, right?! But then how do you mount a mirror in a beautiful, safe and invisible way? The answer to this is fortunately very simple: with the STAS dibond hangers!

The STAS dibond hangers is a metal, self-adhesive plate with a hook. Important when applying the STAS dibond hangers is that the surface is dust and grease free. After cleaning the surface, place the dibond hanger in the right place and press it firmly for 10 seconds. Then allow the dibond hanger to adhere for 30 minutes before hanging up your mirror. The STAS dibond hanger can be hung with a STAS dibond hangers with suitable hooks and cords or it can be attached to the wall with a plug and screw. Hanging a heavy mirror?

You have a mirror that is heavier than 6 kg? No problem! You can mount multiple STAS dibond hangers next to each other to increase the carrying capacity. A 10 kg mirror can be easily hung this way with 2 large STAS dibond hangers next to each other. It is of course important that you keep an eye on the maximum carrying capacity of the hangers.

You can of course go for 1 mirror, but how cool is a mirror gallery?! Collect all kinds of mirrors in different shapes, colors and sizes. A tip from us: browse through markets and secondhand stores to collect a variety of (cheap) mirrors! You can use a STAS dibond hangers for each mirror to hang them safely and invisibly.

Hanging other things with the STAS dibond hangers

Not only mirrors are perfectly (and invisibly) to mount with the STAS dibond hangers. Think, for example, of other flat surfaces such as art and photographs on acrylic, dibond, plexiglass or aluminum! Picture frames are also easy to hang with the dibond hangers!
